Adams-Green Funeral Home is one of the few remaining family-owned and operated funeral homes in the metropolitan area. The funeral home has been family-owned and operated since 1885. It is important to the current owners, Christopher and Kathryn Adams, that the business be a true "family" business conveying the values of any family - trust, caring and integrity.
Overlooking Herndon's original Town Green, the Funeral Home holds a prominent place in
Herndon's history. Thomas Edgar Reed founded the town's first funeral home in 1885. In
1919, his son, Ed Reed took over the business operations and built the current building in
1920.
J. Berkley Green bought the business in 1954 and expanded the building to include a
chapel and a full second floor. The current owners are updating and expanding the
building, focusing on enhancing the charm and home like atmosphere of the property that
has existed throughout the years.
Among the property's distinctive attributes are:
- its front porch lined with rocking chairs;
- a formal chapel capable of seating 125 people;
- a restored 1920's organ in the chapel;
- many historic photographs of the surrounding community;
- two parlors; and
- numerous private areas to sit and reflect.
